Biography
Specialising in robotics, computer vision, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), and 3D reconstruction.
Dr. Viorela Ila is a is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical, and Mechatronic Engineering. Her research lies at the intersection of robotics and computer vision. Her research focuses on delivering foundation methodologies and algorithms to enable robotic systems to build real-time detailed 3D representations of the environment, a problem known as simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM). This problem is of key importance in enabling robotic systems to progress from structured setups such as labs and factories to operating in real-world environments.
